Diet, the Verb Using Which You Can Learn About Your Weight Loss Goals

Diet is an essential component of healthy living. The kind of diet one adheres to largely depends upon the kind of person he or she is. In other words, one diet may not be applicable for all. One must therefore take into consideration certain generalities when formulating his or her own dietary regimen. Also, one should remember that just because a diet is beneficial to one does not necessarily mean that one will be benefited equally by it.

In nutrition, dieting is the total quantity of food ingested by an individual or group over a period of time. It is in this context that dieting can either be termed as sparingly or extensively. A sparingly diet implies that the diet is consumed in moderation and thus is used primarily for special occasions or while undergoing weight-loss procedures such as fasting or dieting. On the other hand, an extensively used diet implies that the diet is consumed in excess and is used as the main diet during times when one needs to increase energy intake for some reason.

Some experts prescribe that one should eat sparingly means eating food that is necessary, but not more so than necessary. This is in line with the philosophy that we do not need everything that we are eating. Thus, in cases where dieting is done avidly, one would have to eat more than the necessary amount of food. However, this does not mean that a diet should be totally devoid of calories. What it means is that the diet should be consumed in moderation.

The noun diet, as the verb in dieting, indicates that the discipline consists of the avoidance or control of certain foods. These foods, in the diet, are supposed to be those which are injurious to health; though, in certain circumstances, where it is not possible to avoid certain food, certain foods may be allowed to be consumed in limited quantities. One is allowed to indulge in eating fruits as long as they are not introduced in large quantities. In the entry 1 of the dictionary, it is mentioned that fruits constitute a major part of diets. Fruits, like all other nouns, also have an indefinite degree of definition, depending on how specific it is.

The verb of diet, being another form of the noun diet, suggests that it is a process of controlling what is eaten by individuals or groups. The noun diet includes the verb diet, in that it refers to any type of diet, including vegetarian diets, diabetic diets, lacto-vegetarian diets, etc. There are even schools of thought which suggest that a diet of dieting, can also refer to any system of eating under controlled circumstances, especially in the field of medicine. If we keep scrolling through the dictionary, we shall find that the word diet can be found in dictionaries in different forms, indicating the total absence of animal protein, carbohydrates, fats, and any other type of food, being considered injurious to health. A number of countries have prohibited the eating of these, as they are deemed harmful to health, and have introduced a regulated system of distribution of foods, with the word diet, being substituted for them.

The verb of diet in the sense defined above can also be found in other languages, as in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and a few others. It is, however, not found in English. The closest we can get to an English equivalent of the verb in the sense defined above is the verb dieter, used to mean to prepare, cook, or consume. This shows that the verb is not only relative to the foods being consumed but is also based upon the relationship between the person or group who is doing the consuming and the food being consumed. The verb dieter, therefore, can mean preparing, cooking, consuming, or eating.
