Healthy Diet – Developing a healthy food environment includes planning your shopping and meal preparation environment to promote healthy foods. The Healthy Diet Pyramid (established by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine) recommends that you select foods from the four major food groups (omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, fiber, and fats) in order to obtain the most nutrition for your daily diet. Also recommended is a well-balanced diet rich in low-fat dairy products and lean meats. To better achieve a healthy diet, it is advisable to purchase the food items as close to their natural state as possible. Frozen and dried fruits are an excellent source of natural sugars.
